Statement in regards to the status of Porcine gelatine
Mufti Sarfraz Mohammed (Auditor for HMC non-meat and one of the HMC Scholars on their Shariah Advisory Committee) wrote a fatwa in 2010 under the guidance of Mufti Taqi Usmani Saheb.
The fatwa clarifies Mufti Saheb’s position in relation to where his name has been mentioned in World Health Organisation website with other scholars and distances himself from that opinion.
The fatwa and research by Mufti Sarfraz Mohammed details very clearly that the chemical reaction and change required for the pork gelatin to become halal does not occur and therefore any substance that has pork gelatine cannot be used.
