To empower Muslims with the knowledge to make active choices about what they consume, HMC organises open days at certified retail shops. Here, we demonstrate our regulatory methods and the level of scrutiny we undertake to ensure Halal compliance. Aimed at community leaders, Islamic scholars and the general public, HMC Open Days inform about how food is produced, processed and sourced.

‘If they say it’s Halal and it’s not, the sin is theirs, not mine.’ – How often have we heard this? Many believe that if they eat something haram, based on false claims, it absolves them of the sin. This may be true in certain situations, however it still does not protect us from, the physical and spiritual damages sustained from eating haram.
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “O S’ad purify your food [and as a result] you will become one who’s supplications are accepted. I swear by He in whose hands the soul of Muhammad lies, verily a servant [of Allah] tosses a Haram morsel in his stomach [due to which] no deed is accepted from him for 40 days.” (Tabarani)
With food fraud so rife today, the onus is on us to actively seek meat/food that is genuinely Halal instead of passively accepting Halal claims without transparency. HMC works hard as a regulating body to maintain genuine Halal standards. But for us to continue our work, the demand for genuine Halal food must exist. This is why educating the public at large is key.
‘O you who believe, eat of the good things We have provided to you and be grateful to Allah, if it is He whom you worship.’ (Qur’an 2:172)
As Muslims, we need to take charge of what we eat and become advocates of Halal. HMC hosts open days at certified retailers, to inform the public about how their food is prepared and processed. We give them the knowledge to protect themselves against consuming food that’s both spiritually and physically harmful.

Supporting HMC Education Programmes is Sadaqah Jariyah.
Teaching knowledge and providing an education is Sadaqah Jariyah. And what education is more vital than teaching people about the tenets of their faith and ways to uphold hem?
The Muslim community today is largely passive about their food choices. Without education, the next generation of Muslims won’t have a sound understanding of their religious obligation to consume Halal.
HMC works tirelessly to engage people in the conversations about Halal and encourage learning. Through advocacy, we’re empowering UK Muslims to make active choices about the food they consume. But to carry out this work, we rely on your support.
