Food fraud is at large, and the Halal sign is being diluted. HMC is one of themost trusted, independent regulator of Halal food in the UK. We’re on a mission to ensure UK Muslims are empowered with the knowledge to make informed choices about what they consume. Can you help us?

The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “That body will not enter Paradise which has been nourished with Haram.” (Bayhaqi)
Our advocacy work educates Islamic institutions and the Muslim public so that people can be active in seeking out food and products that are genuinely Halal Halal. Here are some of our projects.
MADRASAH EDUCATION PROGRAMMES
Young people today face an appalling decline in physical and mental health. As Muslims, we know that the first step to physical and spiritual wellbeing is through upholding Allah’s command to consume Halal. To empower our children and youth, HMC runs Madrassah Education Programmes giving them the knowledge to take charge of what they eat.
OPEN DAYS AT HMC-CERTIFIED RETAILERS
Eating haram without knowing it might absolve us of sin, but it does not protect us from sustaining spiritual harm. HMC hosts open days at certified retailers, to inform the public about how their food is prepared and processed. We give them the knowledge to protect themselves against consuming spiritually harmful haram food.
DOCUMENTARY: THE ‘HALAL’ EXPOSE
Food fraud is at large in the UK, and the Halal sign is rapidly being diluted. HMC is working to produce a documentary about the Halal food supply chain, which exposes the kind of fraud that takes place in an unregulated environment and how harmful this is to our physical and spiritual health.
LOCALISED COMMUNITY EVENTS
The Holy Qur’an gives clear guidelines about what we can consume. They are a way for us to maintain physical and spiritual wellbeing. We are however not always well versed on the topic of Halal and the vast industry.. To tackle this, HMC runs community events educating the public about our operations as well as the Islamic jurisprudence on Halal and haram.
HALAL POLICIES FOR ISLAMIC ORGANISATIONS
Islamic organisations like charities, mosques and ISOCS bear the burden of ensuring that the food they serve at events and Iftars is genuinely Halal. We provide guidance for Islamic organisations. We educate them about supply chains and the importance of doing their due diligence when sourcing Halal food.
The UKs Most Trusted Independent Regulator of Halal Food
HMC is not the sole standard for Halal in the UK. But we’ve been working since 2012 to regulate Halal food so that Muslims can be confident that the meat and products, they consume are genuinely Halal.
Our services involve supervising slaughterhouses, cutting plants and processing sites.
We spend 8,000 hours collectively each month, across 90 production sites, to ensure compliance to the HMC standards. Our staff supervise onsite to award what we call ‘real-time certification.’
Currently, there are over 800 HMC-certified stores across the UK, and we visit each store four times a week on a random basis. We make approximately 13,000 spot checks to ensure certified stores continue to maintain compliance with HMC standards. HMC’s monitoring system costs the industry less than 2p per chicken or 2p per kilo of meat – a small price to pay, to ensure that the food you consume is genuinely Halal.
HMC also certifies non-meat products like cosmetics, confectionary and beverages.
