HMC costs and fees

HMC is a non-profit organisation but operates to recover its costs associated with inspection and certification as well as its central administrative costs.

HMC provides an invaluable service to the Muslim community at minimal costs – the cost of the entire system costs less than 2p per chicken or 2p per kilo for red meat (as of July 2012).

Butchers & Takeaways / Restaurants Fees [£62.50 per month]

Butchers and retailers are charged a Direct Debit of £62.50 to cover the cost of monitoring and certification. This equates to a charge of £2.07 per day for almost daily monitoring.
A one-off fee of £80.00 is applied when joining to cover the initial process for joining and certification production.

Abattoirs and Slaughterhouses [Inspection Cost Recovery]

Abattoirs are charged the cost of inspectors that are required during production, plus a contribution to central administrative costs. Currently, the number of inspectors at Abattoirs average between 2 – 4 inspectors covering various critical points of production.

The number of inspectors required on site will vary based on the number of days/hours of production, the volume of productions and associated expenses for labelling. We also offer alternative pricing based on per unit produced (e.g. number of chickens produced or kilo gram of red meat). This is based on agreed minimum volumes.
On application, an initial audit will be conducted to determine the inspection regime appropriate for the site.

Processing Plants [Inspection Cost Recovery]

Processing plants are charged the cost of full time or part time inspectors that are required to monitor production plus a contribution to central administrative costs.  On application, an initial audit will be conducted to determine the inspection regime appropriate for the site.
